Bio
Coach Watson starts his eighth season at Oakland High (his alma mater) and brings valuable experience to the staff, working as an assistant and head coach in Rutherford County for nearly 30 years. Watson served as head coach in starting the football program at Siegel High and also spent three years as head coach at Blackman High. He played offensive line at Middle Tennessee State from 1990-94 after his four years as a player at Oakland. He began his coaching career at Riverdale High from 1995-99, winning a state championship in 1997 with the Warriors and spent three years as an assistant at Blackman from 2000-02 before starting the program at Siegel in 2003. In seven years, the Stars made the postseason one time and also played in a bowl game while playing in the same district as Oakland, Blackman and Riverdale. He then returned to Blackman in 2010, first as an assistant for five years before his second head coach tenure, compiling a 28-10 mark with the Blaze, including two state quarterfinal appearances. Watson came back to his alma mater in 2018 and served as the offensive line coach for five seasons, winning four state championships, before taking over as the defensive coordinator last season. He is married to the former Joy Lunn and the couple has five children – Emma, Anna Grace, Kelsey, Avery and Jessica.
